The core brands that make up General Motors have been having an identity crisis. In 2007 GM challenged the studio to analyze the interior of 3 cars: the Impala, the G6 and the STS-V. Our goal was to make all GM brands feel familiar to the driver yet stay true to each distinct style. This project's implementation goal was 2012. I was assigned to a 4 person research group and the STS-V. Through research, we identified ideal markets and the reality of the situation and discovered the deeper purpose of each interface control. In later research, I looked at the physicality of the interface. My concept introduces Cadillac's successful Art & Science design language into the cabin with touchpoints that respond to the user with movement and color.
It's dangerous for a driver to have to look at the HVAC display while driving. Instead of a touchscreen, I believe knobs and toggle switches would be a safer alternative that would also appeal to the techie gadget lover that the Cadillac brand wants to attract.
