Hammock Lounge
Lounge Chair, 2007
Wenge + Cotton
This chair is inspired by warm weather slingback chairs. Its goal is to provide a welcoming semi-reclined place to relax. The seating surface is adjustable and removable.
I wanted to create a chair that could exist without matching pieces. I also wanted to have some sort of upholstery, however I really had no experience with that kind of complicated sewing. Like the wall fan, I was inspired by outdoor and semi-outdoor spaces.

The hammock lounge is designed to live in a covered environment, but outdoors. Wenge is a tropical hardwood and therefore has excellent resistance to humidity and rot. The cotton sling stretches with the user, cradling their body at enough of an angle to provide rest to the spine. The chair’s arms fully support the user’s arms and are wide enough to hold that all important cold beverage.
